In this Privacy Policy, we, the Burgergemeinde Bern (represented by the Natural History Museum of Bern), explain how we collect and otherwise process personal data in connection with visitors’ use of this website. This is not an exhaustive description; other privacy policies or general terms and conditions, conditions of participation and similar documents may govern specific matters in the context of using our website. Personal data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable person.
This Privacy Policy is designed to meet the requirements of the relevant federal and cantonal data protection provisions and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Whether and to what extent these laws and regulations are applicable depends on the individual case.

2. Use of data protection-relevant technologies
Cookies: When certain pages are accessed, a “session cookie” is set. This is a small text file that is automatically deleted from your computer at the end of the browser session. This file is used exclusively to enable certain applications to be used. In most web browsers, you can change the settings so that your browser does not accept new cookies, or you can delete existing cookies. You can usually find out how this works for your browser via its help function. If you do not allow cookies, we cannot guarantee that all elements of the website will function properly.
Server log files: As with any connection to a web server, the server of our web hosting provider logs and stores certain technical data. This data includes the IP address and operating system of your device, the data, the access time, the type of browser, and the browser request, including the origin of the request (referrer). This is necessary for technical reasons in order to make our website available to you. The web hosting provider takes technical and organizational measures to protect this data against unauthorized access and does not pass it on to third parties. Insofar as we process personal data, we do so based on our interest in providing you with the best possible user experience and ensuring the security and stability of our systems.
Web analytics services: This site uses the Matomo Analytics software (see https://matomo.org/) to analyze usage. Cookies may be used for this purpose. Your IP address is stored and processed in anonymized form. You can prevent this by configuring your browser accordingly.
Ticketing – provider: To book online tickets on this website, we use the booking system of Ticketpark GmbH, Birkenweg 61, 3013 Bern. If you make a booking on our site, you agree to the storage and processing of your personal data by Ticketpark. You can read Ticketpark’s privacy policy here: https://www.ticketpark.ch/datenschutzerklaerung/
Google Maps: We use Google Maps on our website to display our location and to provide directions. This is a service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. To enable the display of certain fonts on our website, a connection to the Google server in the USA is established when you visit our website. If you access the Google Maps components integrated into our website, Google will store a cookie on your device via your internet browser. Your user settings and data are processed in order to display our location and provide directions. We cannot prevent Google from using servers in the USA. By connecting to Google in this way, Google can determine the website from which your request has been sent and the IP address to which the directions are to be transmitted.
If you do not agree to this processing, you have the option of preventing the installation of cookies by making the appropriate settings in your internet browser. You can find details about this under “Cookies” above.

We use the newsletter service MailChimp, based in the USA, as our newsletter service. We would like to point out that the data collected and used via MailChimp is stored and processed on computers in the USA. By consenting to receive our newsletter, you hereby declare your consent. Your email address will not be passed on to third parties in any other way.
You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time. Every email with our newsletter contains an unsubscribe link.
